Robin van Persie's first strike for Manchester United has been declared Goal of the Month by fans on the club's official websites.
His stunning first-time equaliser during the 3-2 win over Fulham was acclaimed not only by supporters all over the globe, but also by his team-mates. Rafael, who netted the Reds' third goal, told MUTV after the match: "You see van Persie is just a top goalscorer. Whenever he has a chance, he can put the ball there. What a goal!"
Van Persie's strike received an overwhelming 88.9 per cent of the votes, from a shortlist featuring goals scored by the first team, Under-21s and Under-18s in both friendly and competitive fixtures during August.
Wayne Rooney's free-kick against Hannover 96 in the final Tour 2012 match was the runner-up, while Scott Wootton's seventh-minute winner at Stoke City in the Under-21s' league opener was voted into third place.
Van Persie is set to feature at least once in the September poll, having scored his first hat-trick for the club in the month's only first-team match so far.
